BIO

Although my scientific passion is to understand mechanisms of neural development and degeneration, my research trajectory embraces a variety of fields within Neuroscience and Biomedicine, including developmental and stem cell biology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. During my scientific career, I have been lucky to be involved in multidisciplinary activities supported by competitive programs and where I have actively collaborated with top experts in the different fields. Learn more about my work by checking out my current projects and past publications.

MY RESEARCH

I am interested in studying how the nervous system microenvironments shapes the development and the physiological function of neural cells. We aim to implement our discoveries into new platforms for developing more translational human in vitro models and novel tissue regenerative strategies.

DEFINING THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM MATRISOME

In order to gain a better understanding of change in central nervous system microenvironments during development, I have recently begun to use mass spectrometry-based approaches to unbiasedly determine the proteomic composition of the extracellular matrix under normal or pathological conditions.

DEVELOPING NEW PLATFORMS FOR HUMAN MODELING OF NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES

In collaboration with the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia, we aim to develop novel matrices in order to refine current human stem cell-based models of neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration.

EXPLORING EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX-BASED REGENERATIVE STRATEGIES

Understanding molecular mechanisms associated to extracellular matrix is essential for developing new and more efficient therapeutic tools able to enhance neuroregeneration after injury or in response to disease.
